I have never seen snow in my life, much less try snowboarding. However, I decided to give this game a go, just to see how I would fare in "extreme snowboarding" situations. I'm sure some of us have desires to be extreme sportsmen but we either lack the skill, or the time to develop that skill. Well, all you need to start snowboarding on your mobile is good reflexes and nimble fingers. you'll be a champion in no time.
The first thing you'll notice in this game is the graphics. Although the graphics are not sharp, they are rendered pretty decently and work smoothly in the game. For example, while snowboarding down the mountain, you'll see tiny objects but as you pick up speed, you'll notice how the objects grow quickly. The great thing is, the objects "grow" so smoothly that it's sheer pleasure just watching the scenery at times. Even your on screen character's movement is fluid. What I found cool was the fact that when you perform certain stunts, i.e. a "nose grab" by pressing a combination of buttons, your on screen persona will perform these stunts at your will with such grace that you'd actually believe there is a panel of judges holding 10 point cards up in the air for your performance. The only problem I have with the graphics by far is the fact that the landscape around the course does not change. It is not that big a deal once you try the game since you'll most likely be keeping an eye on your character but sometimes, a change of scenery can do you good.
The game comes with 4 modes of replay ability - easy, normal, difficult and extreme. Each harder level can only be accessed once you've beaten the prior difficulty. However, there is only one in game snowboard course and the game's saving grace is the fact that obstacles and ramps are randomly placed each time.
The only downside to this game is the sound. All you hear is bleeps and a "trick" sound when you perform a stunt successfully. That's it. If you ask me, the sound spoils the entire game and I normally just leave it off. Another flaw is the slow menu reaction times. I find that the game is fluid and smooth but choosing menu selections is pretty slow. Kinda unbalances things but is not a major factor. |
