Like most people my age, I wanted to be Ryu when I grew up. Unfortunately I didn't make it. However, all these years later I am still sat here pretending to be him. In fact, now I can pretend to be the street fighting man on the bus, thanks to Midp Street Fighter.
I use the terms 'pretend' and 'thanks to' in the loosest sense of the words because, quite frankly this game doesn't make me feel much like Ryu at all. In fact I'd probably have more fun if I cut out a picture of him, laminated it, put it on a lollipop stick and waved it around at another cut-out lolly stick character.
I found this version of the game to be pretty awful. I tested it on an Sagem C5-3 and on that the game was slow, unresponsive, and downright annoying. True, all the moves from the original are included, but trying to rack up combos using a keypad is nigh-on impossible.
The graphics are pretty bad too. The characters have been badly cut-out and the animation is laughably jerky, as well as being slow. The background images are perhaps the only redeeming feature of the game, but perhaps I just think they're good because everything else about Midp Street Fighter is so woefully bad. |
